If Crusade is your favorite Warhammer 40k game type, you’re in a bit of a pickle when it comes to free downloads for their new 10th Edition rules.
GW promised free rules for almost every game type for 40k, but when it comes to 10th Edition Warhammer 40k crusade rules, they aren’t giving out a ton for free. The new free downloads are more focused on keeping your existing Crusade going and not expanding the rules for a new edition.
The Tyrannic War Crusade rules supplement is available seperately, and those rules are also contained in the 10th Edition Warhammer 40k Leviathan core rules book. However, you will have to pay to get them as a standalone supplement and for additional rules, missions, etc, released in the new edition.
Free 10th Edition Warhammer 40k Crusade Rules (But There’s a Catch)
Here is the latest on 10th Edition Warhammer 40k Crusade rules from Warhammer Community.
Crusade is continuing into the new edition, though things are changing slightly. But that doesn’t mean that your loyal and long-serving veterans need to hang up their augmented bolter ammunition – your Crusade force from the previous edition can be carried over into the new one with a simple document, available to download below.
This document, unfortunately, is all you get this time around for free, but this is enough to keep your crusade going. If you are currently running a campaign, this is nice because you won’t have to stop and restructure the whole thing entirely.
Especially considering Power Levels are gone, you’ll have to use points, but now all upgrades are free, so it’s sort of like a Power Level in a sense. However, if you were hoping for new rules, missions, experience, etc., you must pick up those supplements and either the Leviathan or Crusade rulebook.
And that’s not where the action stops. Included in the Warhammer 40,000: Leviathan Core Book is the first major Crusade supplement for the new edition – Crusade: Tyrannic War.
This supplement contains everything you need to play narrative battles in a sector rapidly being consumed by Tyranids. As well as the fundamental rules for Crusade campaigns and battles in the new edition, it contains a host of Battle Traits, Crusade Relics, Blessings, Agendas, and 15 missions themed around fighting a Tyrannic War – as well as two trees of unique upgrades that can overcharge your most powerful units in different ways, depending on whether they’re monsters… or those who hunt them.
What’s more, even though the poster boys of the new edition are Space Marines and Tyranids, Crusade: Tyrannic War can be used by any faction – after all, pretty much everyone has interests in the galactic west. This expansion is included in the Leviathan Core Book, but it will also be available in a separate volume – and a shiny limited edition – that hits pre-orders next Saturday.
Well, if you want to really expand on your campaign, you’ll have to buy some physical books. However, it does seem like they will keep adding to the game through supplements over the edition, but again, it doesn’t seem like much will be free.
