Futureproof your Warhammer 40k terrain with this modular set that can be assembled like LEGOs and then packed back up after a game.
We talked with the team behind the new modular terrain system and are very excited about this one! They’ve taken the idea of LEGOs and applied it to Warhammer 40k, to make terrain that fixes common pitfalls with the game. Here’s a look at the types of terrain setups you can make with the upcoming project and how you can reserve your set! We’ll also check out the types of add-ons and extra pieces they will be adding to the project, so be sure to follow the Kickstarter by clicking here!
Build a 500 Piece 40k Terrain Table & Futureproof Your Games
We talked with them about what’s included in the project, possible terrain setups (and heights), the basic building blocks of the terrain, and more.
So how tall can you build the terrain?
The base sections have female push-fit receivers on both the top and the bottom, allowing for very flexible verticality. As long as there is one corner section on the lowest floor for stability, I’m not actually sure there is a limit to how high they can be built! Heights of 12” (four stories) are easy, and no reason you couldn’t just keep adding to it!
How many pieces are actually in the project?
A full table set has over FIVE HUNDRED plastic components. I won’t bore you with it here, but there will be a full list of how many of each component will be in each set. For a visual idea, this is half of a component expansion set. One full table set will be comprised of roughly 20 times the components in the expansion set photo.
What are the building blocks of the terrain pieces?
The building blocks of the terrain are the base sections. There are two types:
ones with an attached floor, and ones without a floor. This allows for all types of configurations, where you can build tall ruins with a platform for nice vantage point for your sniper units… or you can build them up strictly as walls with no floors attached to block line of sight.
Any ideas for other potential pieces of terrain?
I’m absolutely chock full of ideas to expand on this terrain! I can’t wait to fulfill this first Kickstarter so I can get started. I think the first set of expansions will be identical pieces, but in faction-specific aesthetics. VIP backers have been getting to vote on which factions get an expansion first- and it’s looking like loyalist marine fortress-monastery or a tyrranid-esque infected imperial world.
I’m also definitely looking to expand the functional set of components, as well. I was limited by budget for this set, but am planning on having more molds made to increase the modularity and versatility even further- T-junctions, doors, different sizes and shapes of floor components, you name it! Then, of course, there’s always forests, armored containers…. Lots and lots of directions!
How about any other add-ons?
Well, of course, there will be the component expansion—but there’s also the Templates Pack! This was a bit of a side project that came out way cooler than I expected, so I’m really excited that is ready in time for the Kickstarter. A set includes six 6×12” ruin templates, two 6×9” ruin templates, four 4×6” ruin templates, and six numbered objective control templates.
It’s thick, transparent plastic that is printed with high definition ruins to match the terrain set! Since tenth edition tournament layouts have rectangular footprints for the ruins, these will make playing a lot more precise.
The template pack also comes with six numbered Objective Control Templates. Honestly, I just created these because I can’t stand the mousepad-looking ones that are always branded and look like logo merch. I wanted something that blends into the tabletop and doesn’t obscure those beautiful (and expensive!) terrain mats.
