GW’s Warhammer preview shows are fading fast; NoVA, LVO, and GenCon all skipped. Will WarCom Monday drops be the new future of reveals?
Games Workshop’s approach to Warhammer previews has been shifting, and not everyone is thrilled.
Once the big highlight of conventions like NoVA Open, Adepticon, and LVO. Now, Warhammer previews are starting to become fewer and farther between.
So what’s happening, and when can we actually expect the next big reveal?
The Vanishing Act at Big Events
Remember when NOVA Open previews were a yearly highlight? Last year’s effort was forgettable, with roadmaps instead of minis, vague timelines, and not a whole lot of excitement. This year? Nothing at all. Not even a token slideshow.
Plus, GenCon, one of the biggest gaming shows in the world, didn’t get a preview either. Even the Tacoma and Dallas Opens, which have become GW’s marquee U.S. events, went without.
Now, even the Las Vegas Open XII in October looks no different, with no Warhammer preview on the schedule. That’s a pretty major shift from the days of rolling out splashy reveals across the circuit.
When Could We See Another Warhammer Preview?
Warhammer Day in 2023 and 2024 was in mid-October, so we think that maybe GW will do a big preview this year as well. Last year, Games Workshop used it to reveal the Orks, Ratlings, and more, and the big batch of 2024 Christmas battleforces.
That gave us something to rally around before the holiday shopping season kicked in. If GW repeats that play, Warhammer Day could be the one date left circled on everyone’s calendar till the 2025 Grand Narrative and World Championships of Warhammer.
Still, nothing is guaranteed. The 2024 trend seems to suggest we might get another round of road maps or campaign tie-ins rather than the headline-grabbing miniatures we’re all waiting for.
Previews by Monday Morning Drop
Games Workshop seems to be trading live preview shows for regular WarCom Monday drops. We’ve already seen this with the Drukhari codex reveal and several smaller model announcements that slipped into the weekly update cycle instead of a convention spotlight.
It feels like GW is leaning on steady content, like the Ultramarine reveal (and let’s be honest, not super consistent) instead of building hype around big events. That might work for consistent engagement, but it leaves the community wondering when (or if) the excitement of a surprise convention reveal is coming back.
What’s Next For Warhammer 40k?
With the Drukhari codex already revealed, the 40k cupboard looks a little bare for major surprises, well, besides a Space Marine reboot.
The most likely option is a campaign series, something in the vein of Boarding Actions or Psychic Awakening, to carry us into the next edition.
And yes, whispers are already circulating about 11th Edition. Some speculate it could drop as early as spring, though history suggests a summer launch is more realistic. That means any filler campaign or preview would serve as a bridge from the final codex books into the next big reset.
Final Thoughts From Us: Warhammer Previews Disappearing
Right now, all signs point to Warhammer Day as the one chance for a live stream online reveal before the holiday season. If GW follows last year’s pattern, we might see big model releases tied into upcoming campaigns or a tease at what’s next for Warhammer 40k.
Until then, it looks like Mondays are the new preview night. Not as flashy as a live event, but it’s the system Games Workshop seems to be running with for now.
