Rumors point to a new Space Marines Codex 2.0 packed with new HQs, fast attack kits, and Terminators; is this GW’s next big move before 11th Edition?

Updated on April 14th, 2025, by Rob Baer with new confirmations from Games Workshop.

Is GW about to drop a Space Marines Codex 2.0 before 10th Edition wraps? The rumor mill says yes—and it’s not whispering. However, as we’ve seen it many times over, it’s not even really a new idea or breaking news, honestly.

Either way, we’re talking new HQ characters across the board, fresh fast-attack kits, and those long-awaited assault Terminators finally crashing back onto the table.

With only a couple of codexes left on the release roadmap, it makes way too much sense. Between the jetbike rumor engine that may be for White Scars, Terminator-clad Iron Hand, and hints at a revamped Lysander, the stars are lining up for what could be a massive Space Marine refresh.

Let’s break down what’s being teased, what might actually hit shelves, and why this could be GW’s last big swing before 11th Edition lands.

Update: More Than Just Rumors?

It looks like these may just be more than rumors! The recently revealed new Drop Pod model seems to lend some heavy weight to some or all of these rumors.

Space Marine Codex 2.0? Yeah, That Might Be Happening.

Look, if you’ve been paying even half an eye to Warhammer 40k rumors lately, you’ve probably noticed the whispers getting louder. We’re talking Salamanders, Imperial Fists, Raven Guard—the whole First Founding crew popping up like they’re about to drop the most dramatic reunion album of the millennium.

So, what’s going on? Is it a campaign book? A new line of supplements? Or are we looking at a full-blown Space Marines 10th Edition Codex 2.0?

From the looks of it, we’re talking new HQ characters across the board, fresh fast-attack kits, and those long-awaited assault Terminators finally crashing back onto the table?

The Roadmap’s Almost Out of Road

40k RoadmapGames Workshop’s codex roadmap has only two pit stops left: Dark Eldar and Leagues of Votann. The other codexes haven’t been released yet, but since they are on the roadmap and fully revealed, we’re not counting those. Once that’s done, there’s a glaring gap.

What fills that space? If you guessed “more Space Marines,” congratulations, you know GW’s favorite color is power armor.

Add to that the not-so-subtle teaser images floating around—Salamander green, Raven Guard black, Imperial Fist yellow—it doesn’t take a librarian (the psychic kind) to read the signs.

HQ Characters Getting a Glow-Up?

Vulkan He'stanThis one’s been floating through the warp for months now: refreshed Space Marine HQ characters. We’re not just talking new sculpts; we’re hearing whispers of full-on redesigns. A White Scars character on a jetbike. An Iron Hands leader in Terminator armor.

Rumors are swirling that Forgefather Vulkan He’stan is making a comeback, possibly dragging assault Terminators along with him. And yes, people are saying Lysander might finally stomp his way back onto the battlefield in glorious, shield-swinging form.

Are we getting these characters as individual releases? Supplements? Probably not. The smarter guess is that they’re all getting bundled into a sleek new codex—Space Marines Codex 2.0.

Not Just HQs—We Might Be Getting More Toys

Vanguard VeteransIf you thought it stops at characters, don’t pack up your sprue clippers just yet. The chatter includes new Space Marine models for fast attack slots. Think revamped Vanguard Vets, a new Land Speeder, and multipart Outriders. That last one’s interesting, because multipart kits open the door for new unit options—or even bike-mounted characters like a Captain, Apothecary, or Librarian.

Imagine the conversion potential. GW says “multi-part,” we hear “kitbash playground.”

And then there’s the drop pods. Apparently, they’re due for a refresh too. Which, if true, is long overdue. If you’ve tried building the current kit without cursing at least once, you’re probably lying or a machine spirit.

So… 10th Edition or 11th?

warhammer logo 11th edition primaris chamption store background hor walThat’s the million-melta question. Some of this could hit with the rumored Space Marines 10th Edition Codex 2.0, but it’s also possible GW’s teeing up for 11th Edition, which should roll around next summer. Still, with codexes running out and characters waiting in the wings, this feels like the calm before the drop pod lands.

And let’s be honest, GW loves a good big finale to an edition. So, dropping an all-in-one Space Marine tome filled with new HQ characters, shiny units, and redesigned kits? That sounds very on-brand.

Either way, the answer is probably “yes” to both.

Supplements vs. Super Codex: Which Is Better?

Codex Supplement Blood AngelsThere’s been chatter in the community—do we want supplements for each chapter, or should it all just go in one giant codex? Supplements are great for lore depth, but when you’ve got to carry five books just to run your list, it gets old fast.

The idea behind Codex 2.0 is simple: put all the new stuff—HQs, units, rules—into one book (obviously other than the main ones like Blood Angels, Dark Angels, and Space Wolves). Cleaner, leaner, easier to manage. Maybe not as flavorful for die-hard fans of the individual chapters, but it’s certainly more table-friendly.

Final Thoughts (No, Really)

So, what’s next for the Adeptus Astartes? We don’t have confirmed dates, but the writing’s on the wall—and it’s written in ceramite and bolter shells. A new codex is coming, whether it hits before or with 11th Edition. And if the rumors hold, we’re looking at one of the biggest refreshes since Primaris Marines crash-landed into our lives back in 2017.

Do you think we’ll see the Space Marines 2.0 codex hit in 1oth, the beginning of 11th Edition, or both?
