1st Place: Martyn Cooper – Astra Militarum (Imperial Guard) Army Lists
Martyn’s Astra Militarum list didn’t whisper tactics; it barked them through a vox-unit and backed them up with a firing line 200 boots deep.
Holding it all together: a Cadian Castellan and a Tech-Priest Enginseer keeping the gears turning and the tanks alive.
Gaunt’s Ghosts skulked around doing their usual “we’re special forces, but tragic” thing. A Cadian Command Squad helped spread orders, and a Rogal Dorn Commander brought the muscle and the command aura to anchor the whole mess.
Troops came in bulk. One squad of Cadian Shock Troops held the line, while four units of Jungle Fighters provided close-range punch with a side of muscle-shirt aggression.
Then came four squads of Death Korps of Krieg: grim, stubborn, and probably enjoying the suffering just a bit too much.
For speed, Martyn ran three units of Death Riders. Fast, cheap, and full of cavalry pride.
Two Kasrkin squads added some elite punch, diving into problem areas and deleting threats that thought they were safe.
Then came the armor. One Leman Russ for classic battle tank action. Two Vanquishers to pop problem units from across the board. And yes, they hit hard.
2nd Place: Anthony Donaldson – Death Guard Army Lists
3rd Place: Daniel Latham – Space Marines (Ultramarines) Army Lists
Final Thoughts on Army Lists
Looking back at the Winchester Open, the Astra Militarum marched their way to victory with sheer firepower, while the Death Guard surely left their opponents feeling a bit… under the weather. Meanwhile, the Ultramarines didn’t quite make the gold, but you can always count on them to rally for another round.
Studying these winning army lists and understanding how their tactics work together can provide valuable insights for improving your own strategy. It’s a smart way to up your own 40k game!
