The new 40k Grey Knights codex cuts big names like Draigo and Stern, sending them to Legends. Here’s what’s missing and why it keeps happening.
The warp has spoken, and it’s not good news for the daemon-hunting boys in silver. The latest round of codex leaks for 10th edition shows the Grey Knights taking some serious losses, not just on the tabletop, but in the roster too.
That’s right, a few familiar names are missing in action, and it’s looking like they’re bound for the Legends list.
Let’s pour one out for the fallen. Brother-Captain Stern? Gone. Kaldor Draigo, the literal Supreme Grand Master? Also MIA. And Servitors, those humble, meat-and-metal menials, have been quietly escorted off the battlefield.
That’s three iconic entries, just… gone.
The Purge Continues Across the Galaxy
This isn’t just a Grey Knights thing. Yarrick’s already been kicked out of the Guard (possibly dead, maybe not). Karandras is still nowhere to be seen in the Aeldari range (some say missing, hopefully getting a rework).
The Space Wolves lost a small army’s worth of characters and gear, and even the poster boys in blue, Space Marines, have watched their roster shrink (at least in terms of characters). If a named character doesn’t have a current model, they’re walking the lonely road to Legends.
It’s like a retirement home for the coolest characters you can’t buy anymore.
What’s Missing from the Grey Knights?
Here’s the short but painful list from the leaked points:
- Brother-Captain Stern
- Kaldor Draigo
- Servitors (the 4-model unit)
Yes, that Draigo, the one who sword-fights Greater Daemons for sport. It’s wild. It’s also a little surprising after seeing him get a JOYTOY model just a couple of years ago.
Maybe he’ll get a refresh in 11th Edition? We can only hope.
So What Now for Grey Knights Players?
If you’ve already got these models painted up, keep using them where you can. But if you were planning on buying Draigo? Might want to hold off until we know if he’s truly out or just… resting. In the meantime, the rest of the Grey Knights roster still hits like a sanctified truck, so the army’s far from dead.
Just maybe keep your hopes in check for any surprise Servitor sculpts.
The Silver Still Shines
Even with the cuts, Grey Knights still bring their own flavor to the battlefield, teleport shenanigans, psychic firepower, and that smug look only people with 2+ saves can pull off. It stings to lose named characters, but this chapter’s not closed yet.
The Emperor protects. But apparently, not everyone’s job security.

The reason Karandras got dropped was more likely to do with the lore, all the phoenix lords being present on the battlefield is prophecy of the end times and the bringing about of the Rhana Dandra. That and he disappeared back into the webway to hunt down his mentor and former scorpions phoenix lord Arhra, who is rumoured to actually be Drazhar. So it makes sense that not all the phoenix lords are currently available on the codex.
Obviously it sucks bigtime!! Are they going to kill off The Emperor himself? Actually I should watch what I’m saying, because they are always toying with the idea of killing off everyone’s favourite living corpse and replacing him with Big Daddy Guiliman. And the dark gods of 40K might decide to finally do it.
