HH Legiones Astartes Combat Force Review
Well, this box gives you a solid core of troops without locking you into a single playstyle. You’ve got 20 Legionaries in MkVI armor with all the tactical flexibility you’d expect, plus a Deimos Rhino to haul them across the battlefield. Throw in a Leviathan Dreadnought and you’ve got some serious punching power right out of the gate.
Grab this box, and you’re laying a solid foundation for a new Legion army.
Plus, who knows? GW might just copy Combat Patrols and make a game mode for these boxes in the future.

Is it Worth It?
Compared to a normal Combat Patrol for 40k, this actually has great value! A decent amount of the value does come from the accessories, but still, it saves you a lot of cash. If you missed out on any of the starter boxes, this is a great pick-up.
Considering every Horus Heresy army needs plenty of tactical marines, this is a good base. If you did get the Age of Darkness starter from 2022, this might be a pass, as it basically has very similar units.
How Many Points Is This?
Well, if you’re wondering about the Legiones Astartes Combat Force points? In games of Horus Heresy, this box is around 550 points (can change a lot depending on how much you upgrade and equip your units).

What to Buy Next?
If you pair this with another Horus Heresy set, say the Age of Darkness starter, or Saturnine, you’re suddenly sitting on a huge base for a Legion force with plenty of options to expand into specialized units.
That said, you’ll probably want to look at adding some heavy support down the road. Tanks and artillery really shine in Horus Heresy, and nothing says “welcome to the Great Crusade” like backing your infantry with some serious armored firepower.
And while this Combat Force won’t get you to a full-size game on its own, it’s a rock-solid starting point. It’s an excellent springboard for smaller clashes and learning the ropes.
Final Thoughts From Us
So there you have it, the Legiones Astartes Combat Force is a wallet-friendly way to bulk up your troops, snag a transport, and roll out a Leviathan that’ll make your opponents sweat. It’s not a full army in a box, but it’s a strong foundation that’ll let you hit the table fast and keep your options open for future expansions.
We think if you’ve been waiting for a solid entry into Horus Heresy or just want more MkVI bodies to march under your Legion’s banner, this box is mostly a no-brainer.
