Warhammer Day 2023 Reveals!

GW Previews kill team

This parade of awesome articles will culminate on Saturday with an extra-special live reveal show on the Warhammer Twitch Channel. Things kick off at 2pm BST, and there’s a real welter of stuff to unveil: new books and miniatures for Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar, a new box and a new faction for Kill Team, and big news for Warhammer: The Old World.

The last few previews have been quite late at night, so it’s nice to finally see one coming at a somewhat average time here in the States, unless you live on the West Coast, as you might have to get up early!

Here are the quick links to all the previews from the Warhammer Day Preview. Click on any of them for the full articles!

The Warhammer Day Preview was on October 14th 2023, and revealed tons of upcoming new Warhammer miniature releases

10th Edition 40k Adeptus Mechanicus Sydonian Skatros & Codex Rules!

Adeptus Mechanicus Sydonian Skatros

The Sydonian Skatros is a sinister sight – stalking into position on its stilt-like legs before standing deathly still, a living cyborg watchtower that scans the battlefield for targets. It’s a perfectly engineered sniper, and little escapes its all-seeing achillan eye and fine-tuned elimination protocols.

The new model is pretty wild, and if you like the new aesthetic GW is pushing Admech in, this is for you! The additional height will also play a benefit in games, as you can see over all kinds of stuff.

Luckily, they will also have the lone operative ability, so as long as you keep them away from the enemy, they won’t be able to be shot at for a while.

Equipped with either a radium jezzail for popping INFANTRY or a transuranic arquebus for penetrating the armour of VEHICLES and MONSTERS, the Skatros is an exemplary marksman. Its Achillan Eye zeroes in on vulnerable quarry, providing re-rolls for Wound rolls against its favoured targets.

This will have two different loadouts, and you can either go heavily into anti-character or go a little more into vehicle killing. They mention you can run more than one of these, so if you have a few in the backfield, you could take out a character each turn!

Unfortunately, it looks like this might be the only model that GW comes out with for Ad Mech this time around, but at least they do get a new codex.

New Adeptus Mechanics Codex

Five full Detachments – each with their own Enhancements and Stratagems – feature alongside 30 datasheets, supported by lashings of lore, painting tips, galleries of beautiful miniatures, and new tech-hunting Crusade rules.

They didn’t give the exact release date for the codex, but according to the roadmap, we have a few months until the promised drop date. Luckily, they did give us a little insight into the book.

First, the five different detachments in the codex:

  • Rad-zone Cohort – Current detachment, but GW says the rules will get better (and a stronger Rad Bombardment)
  • Explorator Maniple – Don’t give much info, but it would make sense to have a lot of fast-moving units.
  • Cohort Cybernetica – If you love big blobs of Kastelan Robots, this will power them up!
  • Data-psalm Conclave – Will have a big focus on your Tech Priests.
  • Skitarii Hunter Cohort – This looks to focus on Skitarii (detachment rules below), and the detachment rule gives them much more survivability.

On top of that, the existing Rad-zone Cohort receives revisions increasing the efficacy of its Rad Bombardment, and the new Explorator Maniple sets its sights on acquiring rare archeotech from the battlefield, no matter the cost. The Cohort Cybernetica provides you with seriously powered-up Kastelan Robots, while the Tech-priests of the Data-psalm Conclave exhort the Cult Mechanicus to eradicate their foes.

Well, one of the biggest issues of Admech is the current detachment ability, so right off the bat, this is better. You can give huge swathes of your army stealth and the benefit of cover! When you add this with the better save, they get a 3+ when your opponent is more than 12″ away!

Once your army has tiptoed into position,Binharic Offencelets two SKITARIIunits attack a prime target with unthinking synchronicity, their lockstep assault improving their Armour Penetration by 1. Pin down an enemy with a Skatros sniper, then blast through their vulnerable spots with aS korpius Disintegratoror a squad of Rangers.

If you have two big units with a ton of shots, this is really powerful. We’ll see if they have any ways to generate extra CP because they already have a few 2 CP strats.
