Games Workshop dropped a killer update for Warhammer Day 2022 with Bayard’s Revenge. This one shows the Emperor’s Champion in his natural habitat, finishing off a very unlucky Ork Nob, pulled straight from classic 40k artwork. The sculpt is clean, the pose is dramatic, and it’s dripping with Black Templar attitude.
The 40k Emperor’s Champion model went up for preorder on October 8th, 2022, and hit stores later that month. Between the ornate armor and cinematic base, it’s got everything you’d want from a centerpiece mini. Ork players might hate it, but let’s be honest, it’s a showstopper.
The Forgotten Emperor’s Champion Model (3rd Edition)
Back in the late ’90s, the first Emperor’s Champion model arrived with 3rd Edition 40k, and it’s still one of the most recognizable Space Marine sculpts ever made. That pose with the sword raised high? Iconic.

Fast forward to 2021, and the Black Templars finally got a Primaris Emperor’s Champion model worthy of their legacy. The sculpt keeps the classic 3rd Edition vibe but updates everything with cleaner lines, better proportions, and that modern Space Marine bulk.
The design team clearly wanted to pay respect to the old pose while giving it new life for current players. The armor’s packed with details, from purity seals to ornate trim, and it looks right at home leading a fresh crusade across the tabletop.
The new version might be bigger and flashier, but it still feels like the same Champion, just ready to hit harder and stand taller.
