We’ve seen six-ish waves of the Warhammer 40k Space Marines Heroes Miniatures so far- here’s a look back at all those releases!

The Space Marines Heroes line has cranked out six-ish waves of power-armored glory so far, and yes, we’re counting the weird Japan-only stuff too.

From classic Bolter bros to Terminators, this series has quietly become one of the best ways to grab characterful Warhammer 40k sculpts without buying an entire box set.

Here are the latest additions, and all the Space Marine er, Warhammer Heroes miniatures we have seen so far.

Warhammer Heroes / Space Marine Heroes Quick Reference List

Trying to keep track of all the Warhammer Heroes releases is like herding squigs, confusing, slightly dangerous, and oddly satisfying. From red-plastic reruns to chaos-loving Death Guard and now lightning-slinging Stormcasts, this line has had some wild swings.

So if you’re wondering which blind-box marines (and friends) you’ve missed, here’s the full rundown, no dataslate required.

  • Series 1 – Space Marine Heroes (2017)
12 classic power-armored Space Marines in blind boxes (original Japan release).
  • Series 2 – Terminators
Red plastic Terminators (Blood Angels-style), no chapter icons.
  • Series 3 – Death Guard
Chaos enters the lineup with easy-to-build Death Guard Marines.
  • Series 3.5 (Kind of) – Blood Angels Rerun
Red plastic version of Series 1 with no new sculpts, just a rerelease.
  • Series 4 – Strike Force Justian
Officially rebranded as Warhammer Heroes; includes Intercessors and Assault Marines. Rocky global release in 2023.
  • Series 5 – Stormcast Eternals (2024)
First Age of Sigmar entry with seven new Stormcast models in blind boxes. Launches October 26, 2024.
  • Series 6 – Strike Force Variel
Return to Space Marines with push-fit Kill Team-ready models and a secret Lieutenant. Includes Kill Team data cards.

Space Marine Heroes Series 1

Japan Space Marine Heroes

The first box came with 24 individual “mystery” boxes, and there were 12 different models in the series, and each model cost around 600 Yen or $7 USD. So back then (2017), the price wasn’t too bad for each Warhammer Heroes.

Considering these may not have been as big in the States as they were when they were first released in Japan, people may not have grabbed them. The original Warhammer 40000 Space Marines Company Heroes miniatures were something to behold!

Either way, the first wave was just really cool to unbox. Check out Rob’s video on it, or check out our coverage back in 2017.

Space Marine Heroes Series 2

The Space Marine Heroes, Terminators, were available at stores that don’t normally carry Warhammer 40k minis, but also at local stores. This time around, they went to terminators who were also in red plastic, so obviously meant to be Blood Angels, just sans the icons.

They even supposedly put out a manga for them, which was cool to see, but was very hard to get.

So maybe the next time Games Workshop does a release like this, we’ll get another one. Check out our unboxing here.

Death Guard Space Marines Heroes Series 3

Death Guard comparisonAfter two loyalist iterations, hobbyists finally got some Chaos! The Space Marine Heroes Death Guard 3rd wave was some really cool minis, and while, like the other two waves, they were released in Japan first, they eventually came to the USA for a normal price.

These were super easy to build, and they might have been the coolest of all the series. Be sure to check out Rob’s video or check out our unboxing here.

Space Marine Heroes Series 4 (Kind of)

Space Marine heroes 6

The Space Marine Heroes Blood Angels collection 2 packs are pretty cool, but fairly expensive for what you get. As an $8 Firstborn mini really isn’t too exciting, but it is fun to open the pack, not sure of what you’re going to get, and they are different sculpts than the normal tactical squad. So it might be worth it as far as that goes…

Plus, you get the card and a textured base.  However, nothing is different from the first wave, and there isn’t even any Blood Angels iconography on the models, other than the decals the painting team threw on.

So while they are red plastic, they are identical to the set put out basically five years ago… Either way, if you want them now or didn’t score them back then, they are back for a limited time…

Series 4: Strike Force Justian (Warhammer Heroes)

Space Marine Heroes Series 4

Space Marine Heroes 2023 Series 4, Strike Force Justian, came in hot, then immediately tripped over its own power armor.

The rebrand to “Warhammer Heroes” looked promising: Intercessors, Assault Marines, all packed into blind boxes. But instead of a smooth drop, we got a logistical mess.

Space Marine Heroes Series 4 2The release? Chaos. Supposed to hit globally in September 2023, but in the U.S., it basically blinked out of existence. A few showed up in random big-box stores months later, like some kind of supply chain ghost story.

Japan and parts of Europe had better luck, which only made the hunt more frustrating for everyone else. Scalpers had a field day, prices spiked, and anyone trying to build a full squad was left with empty shelves and eBay regrets (and nothing on the Games Workshop webstore).

Series 5: Stormcast Ride the Lightning

Warhammer Heroes Stormcast Series 5Sigmar’s stepping up to the plate, Warhammer Heroes Series 5 swapped out bolters for hammers and brought some divine muscle to your shelves. After four rounds of power-armored Space Marines, Games Workshop switched gears with a brand-new lineup of Stormcast Eternals.

That’s right: seven unique, blind-boxed champions from the Mortal Realms are stormed onto the scene on October 26th, 2024.

Stormcast Series 5 8New sculpts, new personalities, same collectible magic, only with this set, the lightning’s coming from Azyr, not a plasma coil.

Series 6: Strike Force Variel

Space Marine Warhammer Heroes Dark AngelsThe latest Warhammer Heroes set is back with the classic blind box setup of Marine Squads, crack it open, roll the dice, hope it’s the one you want.

There are seven Space Marines in the lineup, each with a Kill Team data card in English, German, or Japanese. No filler, just straight to the action.

Snag the whole squad, and you’ve got a full Kill Team that’s easy to run and quick to get on the table (it’s all push fit).

Here’s who’s in the lineup:

  • Sternguard Sergeant Ramus – serious face, probably smells like incense and burnt heretics.
  • Infernus Marine Haroth – flame weapon, short fuse.
  • Assault Intercessor Maphael – solves problems with fists.
  • Infiltrator Belath – ghost with a gun.
  • Intercessor Zeradim – dependable. Won’t win a beauty contest, but gets the job done.
  • Reiver Nahrden – skulls on skulls. Probably quotes poetry mid-fight.
  • Plus one secret lieutenant they’re pretending we don’t know exists.

Each display box has eight blind packs. You might land a full set. You might get four of the same guy, who knows?

Final Thoughts on the Space Marine Heroes Line

Next-Week-New-space-marines-heroes kill team

Space Marines Heroes has been a wild ride with blind boxes, Japan-only drops, red plastic reruns, and a whole lot of bolters. Whether you’re in it for the sculpts, the surprise, or the thrill of the hunt, there’s something oddly satisfying about chasing down a full squad one mystery box at a time.

Missed a wave? Now’s your shot.
